Featured Vendor: Antigo Cakes
Hi blog readers!
I am happy to feature one of my favorite vendors, Antigo Cakes! I had a blast hanging out recently with Sonia (owner of Antigo Cakes), her husband of 17 years, and handsome sons for our photo session. Sonia is an amazing baker and she is just the sweetest person! If you need cake or desserts for any occasion, please don't hesitate to contact her at antigo.cakes@gmail.com. Meantime, enjoy the Q&A session below as well as the beautiful photos from their session!
JMP: What made you want to open this type of business?
AC: I have been baking on and off for about 10 years and last year my friend and co-worker convinced me to start again, so I did and started doing naked cakes because I wanted a specific style/trend.
JMP: How did you come up with your business name?
AC: My friend and I wanted to combine our cultures – she is Filipino and I am Puerto Rican – to come up with a unique business name that will still represent my brand. Antigo means antique/vintage, and I want to specialize in cakes – so ‘Antigo Cakes’ it was!
JMP: Tell us a little bit about your business.
AC: I am a home baker whose main focus is on weddings, however, also love baking for all occasions. We specialize in cakes, more specifically naked or semi naked cakes. We also specialize in French Macarons and Muffies (a delicious brownie and cookie hybrid).
JMP: Tell us a bit about what you like to do in your spare time and your family life.
AC: I have been married to my husband Tim for over 17 years. We have two beautiful boys, Caleb and Evan. We are originally from Chicago, but have been in Arizona for about 12 years. My boys are my life and have been so supportive of my passion for baking! (Tim also serves as my muscle for the business!)
JMP: What do you love most about what you do?
AC: Other than making my clients happy, we have to say that it’s been such a pleasure to meet and work with local businesses/friendors. We hope to continue to be successful in building our brand of baking, styling and community building.
JMP: What has been your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
AC: We have been featured on Channel 3, The Perfect Palette, and Wedding Wire! It is always a nice feeling when get affirmation of our hard work.
JMP: How much should they budget for a cake?
AC: Each slice of cake starts at $5.00 per serving. French Macarons are $20.00 per dozen and Muffies are $24.00 per dozen.
JMP: Do you use organic or GMO free products?
AC: Yes, we offer organic and GMO free products.
JMP: Do you offer gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, and/or nut free options?
AC: Yes, we do not want to limit our clientele and believe everyone should be able to enjoy Antigo Cakes’ products!
JMP: What flavors of cake do you offer? And do you offer fondant frosting?
AC: We offer any flavors and colors of filling and frosting if possible. We do not limit ourselves and love a challenge.
JMP: When should clients book their bakery?
AC: We understand that everyone has hectic schedules due to family life and work schedules and are pretty flexible as far as scheduling. However, ideally we would like orders placed at least two weeks in advance. We also offer free delivery up to 15 miles from Gilbert and $10.00 up to 30 miles.
JMP: Do you offer a free wedding consultation?
AC: Yes, we do! We would love to meet with you to help plan something delicious for your special occasion!
JMP: Do you have a special menu for certain seasons or have anything unique on the menu?
AC: We don't usually do trends unless given freedom by the client.
