Day of the Dead Photo Session I Dia de Los Muertos I Gilbert, Arizona
I love dressing up and wanted to capture some fun photos for Halloween. After speaking with Marissa, we came up with the idea of a Day of the Dead photo session. Rebeca goes all out for the DOTD celebration every year with her family in Tucson and offered her makeup services to us! Rebeca spent hours doing makeup for me, Marissa, Jackie, Luck, and Kevin - what a trooper, and the results came out fantastic! Thank you SO much Rebeca!
I'm usually behind the camera photographing others, but for this session I HAD to be in some of the shots - thanks Marissa and Luck!
Day of the Dead, also known as Dia de los Muertos, is a Mexican holiday celebrated between October 21 and November 3, which brings together family and friends to pray for and remember loved ones who have died, and to help support their spiritual journey. Private altars are made, and the deceased are honored with sugar skulls, marigolds and their favorite foods and drinks. Visitors also leave possessions of the deceased at the graves.
This tradition is similar to the Cambodian celebration called Pchum Ben, which took place between September 30 and October 2 of this year. My mom cooked so many delicious Cambodian entrees and honored our loved ones at the Cambodian temple in Phoenix. A future blog featuring my mom and some Cambodian foods will be forthcoming - stay tuned. Meantime, enjoy the photos from our DOTD session! :)
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need a photographer for your event.
